Belgian Malinois are herders who stand 22 to 26 inches tall, proud, and vigilant. They have an honest, no-frills appearance, as befitting canines meant to work hard for their food. They are strong and well-muscled but more graceful than big. The lofty carriage of the head is a breed characteristic. Colours range from a deep fawn to dark mahogany. The dark ears and mask draw attention to the brilliant, curious eyes, which are the colour of dark Belgian chocolate.

If you’ve ever watched a Mal complete an obedience routine, you know how intelligent and enthusiastic this breed is. Mal is happiest when he gets enough exercise beside their adoring owner.

As police and military K-9s, Mals are in great demand. They have performed so well that a life-size bronze of a Belgian Malinois may be found at the Fayetteville, North Carolina, military canine monument.
